My Happy Place

When I first started my job at the bakery, I was trained by my friend Jackie. She warned me of how maddening some customers can be and she advised me to envision a "happy place" that I could drift off to in my mind when I don't want to deal with people. At first, my happy place was a glowing cave full of sparkling stalactites and stalagmites in an array of pastel and neon colors. Of course there were albino bats sleeping upside-down on the ceiling as well.

Since then, I have thought up a new happy place that pleases me even more! It is less of a place and more of an idea. When I am faced with a situation I find frustrating; I space out a little and picture the place I am in with the addition of a few bunny rabbits that defy gravity. If I am at the bakery; I picture them floating around just over the heads of the customers. they sometimes gently bump into light fixtures and sort of move their paws in a swimming motion to maneuver around. If a customer is truly horrible; they will receive an air-raid of bunny turdlets. Ha!

My newest Gocco printed drawing was inspired by my happy place. I couldn't really figure out how to draw bunnies defying gravity so I gave them balloon assistance. I'll be putting these up for sale in my shop tomorrow!

P.S. Justin also delights in the floating bunny exercise. He even named his blog Anti-Gravity Bunny!

I love this image and the story behind it! I have a happy place too, but I'm always afraid the nasty folk will populate my happy place if I think of it when they are around. I'm totally missing the point, aren't I?
