I'm putting a dent in my brand new watercolor set with all the doodles and experiments I've been doing. My latest mission has been to fill in my simple Micron pen drawings. I have been drawing and printing what are basically outlines for a few years now and I think it is about time to try incorporating some colorful innards!
I have been thinking about a big project for almost a year and I work on it irregularly. Now that I'm playing around with watercolor, the project has gained momentum. I think it was just waiting to meet the right medium.
The project is a story and the main character is an alligator. The pickle-like ovals above are a series of practice bodies. Since I will be drawing the alligator over and over agin throughout the story, I have to do something that is unlike me; I have to be organized! I don't want the alligator to look different on every page so I need to pick a specific technique and learn how to repeat it with consistency. I need to have a recipe! This will be a huge challenge for me because I am the type of person who never does the same thing twice (mostly because I am so forgetful that I couldn't repeat if I tried).
The next few days will be alligator body central. I will try every color and technique I can think of, pick the best and repeat repeat repeat. If I can't manage that, I will just make one excellent gator, cut it out and place it on every page... because I am a cheater.
