stamp carving at my place

Last night I invited a few craftily-inclined friends over for an informal rubber stamp carving class so that I would be prepared for the real stamp carving class I'm running later. I'm so glad I did that because not only was it a fun time with nice ladies but it also helped me to see how other people learn. I think I will have more tips to share when my class rolls around now. So thank you Mary, Sarah and Laurie for being my guinea pigs (and for bringing me mufins, fresh bread and homemade pickles)!

Carving rubber stamps

I've spent twelve hours in the past two days hunched over my desk carving rubber stamps. I am having so much fun.

In a few weeks I'm teaching a workshop about making stamps and needed to have some to display. The old stamps I carved were ok but I wasn't particularly interested in the imagery anymore so I decided to make some fresh ones to show the students. I'd forgotten that cutting into a piece of buttery soft rubber with a nice sharp knife is pure pleasure.

Now I need to find what to print on!
