We've decided to give up on our car...

Overgrown Bluebody, originally uploaded by kxlly.

..before it gives up on us. Our car is old and bang-clanky and becoming evermore unreliable. We worry every time we go over a bump that all of the sides will unhinge and fall to the ground like in cartoons. We thought about just using it for short jaunts to the grocery store but, honestly, it's a waste of insurance money to keep it alive for such occasional use. We're really happy (sort of) because we found out that we can donate it to the MSPCA and they can make some money off the parts.

We're not getting another car either. We're going to be carless (not to be confused with careless). It's a little scary but we are both in walking distance from work and a train station so I think it's doable albeit tremendously inconvenient. I think it just comes down to planning things in advance and getting better at cycling and using public transportation.

We're going to have one last hurrah with our car and drive it to a nice breakfast place on the beach and then drive around some more to stock up on the necessities that will become hard to aquire later.

The situation is undesirable but I'm trying to focus on the upside of getting into shape and helping the environment. Maybe I'll even like it. Maybe?

have you considered zipcar? i use it and while it isn't as convenient as having a car in your driveway, it can certainly help when you need to run some errands or transport big things...

I'm sorry to hear about it. I knew the time was getting close. I'm just glad you were able to give it one last trip to CT to visit us :o)

Hey, I've got a great idea! You should get a scooter--I just got one and get this--it gets 96 mpg! It'd be perfect for you guys, and I think you would be the most adorable scooter couple in all the land!

You guys are much braver than i am! My car is almost dead and needs to replaced real soon. Several people have told me to take public transportation but i can't help but think it's totally the most preposterous idea. haha. It wouldn't work b/c of my job anyway but i couldn't bear to lose that freedom. Just couldn't do it.

But you & Justin are in a much more convenient area so i understand.

What is he gonna do about going to shows in Boston?

How are you guys anyway?!

Thanks for the tips! We'll probably try zipcar and We've also been casually browsing craigslist fo scooters (I think we'd look cute too!).

Justin is sad about getting to concerts but taking a cab once in awhile is still less expensive than car ownership so he may have to. We're doing well though otherwise :).

Hey doodz,
If you need a ride anywhere, give me a ring. I live down the street, you know, and I'd be happy to help.
